History of lacrosse

Started in 2011. as a project of two sport enthusiasts, lacrosse in Croatia gradually evolved to where it is today. What began as a hopeful plan of one day fielding a lacrosse team in their hometown of Zagreb, in only a few years led to lacrosse being played in Varaždin and Split and establishing the basis for a National Lacrosse Team. Like most non mainstream sports in this part of Europe, lacrosse in Croatia owes it’s existence to the players and enthusiasts who sacrificed their time and money just to keep this project going. With their help it was possible to regularly travel to tournaments, play organized leagues and also acquire adequate infrastructure to hold regular and quality practice sessions. Also, equipment donations from the USA helped the program immensely and made it possible to bring it to another level. Currently, plans are being made to establish a functional youth program which will be the foundation of future development of lacrosse in Croatia and future Croatian lacrosse players that will represent their home country on an international level. This way we hope to promote lacrosse in the region and help develop other programs in neighboring country, other cities and thus spread lacrosse to new places.
